The 18th Annual Working Harbor Committee Tugboat Race

As the summer came to a close and fall was setting in, Launch 5 made one of its last trips down the Hudson River to New York harbor for the 18th Annual Working Harbor Committee’s Tugboat Race. This race, hosted at first by the Intrepid Sea, Air, & Space Museum, is an event where all of the tugboat companies operating on the Hudson River and its tributaries come together for some good fun. Tugboats race against one another while spectators watch and cheer to raise money for the Committee, which is a not-for-profit operating two-hour narrated boat tours of New York and New Jersey’s working waterfront. From the About Page on the Working Harbor Committee’s website:

“We take people to places that are normally hidden from the eyes of most area residents and visitors. We call them Hidden Harbor Tours®. Since the Working Harbor Committee was founded in 2002, we have taken well over 28,000 individuals out on the water to educate them about the importance of the maritime industry and why it is critical to the economic health and quality of life in the New York and New Jersey area.”
